Nanjing is a famous ancient capital, a famous historical and cultural city, and the capital of Jiangsu Province. The urban area is 947.3 square kilometers, with a current population of 2.68 million. Due to the small urban area of Nanjing, urban road traffic has been in a tense state for a long time.
Phase I of Nanjing Metro Line 1 starts from the Olympic Sports Center in the south and ends at Maigao Bridge in the north, forming a rapid transit corridor along the central axis of the main urban area of Nanjing. The estimated investment for the project is approximately 8.5 billion yuan, with a total length of 21.72 kilometers. The construction began in December 2000 and was officially put into operation on September 3, 2005. The south extension line of Nanjing Metro Line 1 starts from Andemen station, goes south via Tianlongsi station, Ningnan Daidō Station, etc., and finally arrives at China Yaoda Station, with a total length of 24.47km. There will be 15 stations along the line. It started construction in 2006 and was put into operation on May 28, 2010.
Phase I of Nanjing Metro Line 2 starts from Youfang Bridge in the west and ends at Maqun in the east, with a total length of 25.14km. There are 19 stations. Line 2 passes through Xinjiekou, Ming Palace of the Ming Dynasty, Xiaolingwei, Maqun, Hanzhong Gate, Mochou Lake, Hexi and other important areas along the way. Line 2 will intersect with Line 1 at Xinjiekou and Yuantong stations. At the intersection station, transfer within the station will be adopted, so that transferring from Line 1 to Line 2 does not require exiting the station to purchase a new ticket. Nanjing Metro Line 2 was fully started in December 2005 and put into operation on May 28, 2010.
