The new C-Series modules connect CompactRIO PACs and NI Single-Board RIO embedded systems to PROFIBUS industrial networks and add high-performance measurement, advanced analytics, and custom field-programmable gate array (FPGA) logic to existing systems. Engineers can now easily upgrade and retrofit existing machines and systems with the new PROFIBUS modules to quickly add high-performance, flexible NI hardware and LabVIEW graphical software to complete high-speed and customised tasks that cannot be solved with traditional PLCs. FOUNDATION Fieldbus is a simple, bi-directional digital communications protocol commonly used in process automation. The new NI USB-8486 is a single-port Foundation Fieldbus H1 interface that provides data logging, configuration, and control in HMI and distributed control system applications. The new interface connects Foundation Fieldbus devices to standard desktop computers, industrial PCs, and laptops.The USB-8486 is ideally suited for portable data logging as well as field configuration and maintenance of devices and networks.DeviceNet is an industrial protocol based on the physical layer of the Controller Area Network (CAN), and is managed by the Open DeviceNet Vendor Association.

Enhancements to the GE IS220UCSAH1A upgrade include the ability to use labels in conjunction with Allen-Bradley controllers so they can be named using descriptive text of the programmer’s choice, rather than using the label name based on the PLC memory address. This is important on two levels. Firstly, it means that the Maple HMI can be used with Allen-Bradley controllers without having to change the coding of the controller itself. This allows the user to put the Maple HMI into an established Allen-Bradley process without interrupting the existing controller programme. Second, from a practical standpoint, the cryptic names of variable labels can be replaced with more appropriate nomenclature. This allows users to create descriptive labels that are more meaningful to your unique automation process – such as “pumphouse7”.
