Regardless of domestic or joint venture brand DCS, in terms of hardware, its core components such as central processing unit (CPU), analog-to-digital converter/digital to analog converter (ADC/DAC), microcontroller unit (MCU), field programmable gate array (FPGA), and gigabit physical interface transceiver (PHY) are all imported products, heavily relying on foreign manufacturers. In terms of software, both DCS upper computer and lower computer application software have independent intellectual property rights, but most of them are independently developed based on imported operating systems. DCS upper computer application software and fieldbus software are developed based on Windows systems. Key software such as embedded operating systems for controllers, desktop operating systems for upper computers, and databases must be authorized by foreign manufacturers.

At present, multiple manufacturers have gradually completed the localization replacement of components through independent controllable system research and development, device selection, testing, on-site trial, continuous screening and iteration, and the migration of control system software to the Linux platform, achieving full autonomy and controllability of the software. DCS distributed control system generally consists of five parts: controller; I/O board; Operation station; Communication network; Graphics and programming software.
