The FBMSVH is a programmable logic controller designed for demanding tasks or safety-related applications; if a safety PLC fails, it does not pose a risk to personnel or process safety. In practice, the term “safety PLC” is not very precise. Even if a PLC achieves a specific Safety Integrity Level (SIL), it is still possible for it to be used incorrectly with unsafe results.

FBMSVH specific SIL rating, standard PLCs for automation control can also be used in safety applications. Some standard PLCs can now be programmed to be validated for safety applications as well, while safety network controllers are already available to replace safety PLCs in some applications.

FBMSVH needs to be designed and constructed as an accident safe PLC utilizing various levels of redundancy, utilizing chips mounted in different zones, and it also needs to be third party certified to the IEC61508 standard. It is best if the programming and interfacing of the safety PLC is consistent with all other PLCs.
