Huaneng Qinbei Power Plant is adjacent to Taihang Mountains in the north and Qinhe River in the south. 207 National Highway, Jiaozuo–Liuzhou railway (Jiaozuo Guangxi Liuzhou), Jidong (Henan Jiyuan Shandong Dongming) Expressway, Jiluo (Jiyuan Luoyang) Expressway and Jijin (Jiyuan Shanxi Jincheng) Expressway pass through the plant. In China, the first large-scale domestically produced supercritical coal-fired unit equipment was used, and two 600000 kilowatt domestically produced supercritical coal-fired units were installed in the first phase of the project. It started construction in September 2002 and was put into operation in December 2004. As the first domestically produced 600000 kilowatt supercritical coal-fired power plant in China, Henan Huaneng Qinbei Power Plant is one of the first batch of domestically produced supercritical power plants determined by the state, adjacent to the coal bases in southeastern and southern Shanxi. Its construction is of great significance for the development of national industry, improving the level of localization of major equipment in China, promoting industrial upgrading, and promoting the adjustment and optimization of power structure.
Due to the Qinbei Power Plant being located at the intersection of the Central China, North China, and Northwest power grids, it plays an important role in supporting the national grid connection and achieving optimal resource allocation within the area. At the same time, Huaneng Qinbei Power Plant has been listed as a demonstration power plant for coal-fired optimization design in the 21st century. Its engineering design level is in line with international standards, and its effectiveness will play a demonstration role in the future design of coal-fired power plants in China.
