At Nissan’s North American Technology Center in Farmington Hills, Michigan, the United States, General Electric and Nissan announced that they had signed a two-year cooperation agreement, focusing on joint research and development of electric vehicle technology, accelerating the improvement of electric vehicle infrastructure, and stimulating the growth of electric vehicle sales. The focus of the research is how the charging operation of Nissan Leaf and other electric vehicles will affect household and enterprise power systems and public grids.
Mark Little, Global R&D Director of General Electric, attended a media conference at Nissan North America Technology Center. He said, “We will work together to promote electric vehicle applications to make the world a better place.” The two companies had previously reached a cooperation agreement on electric vehicles. In April 2010, the two sides signed a three-year agreement to jointly develop electric vehicle charging devices.
Nissan is currently selling LEAF electric vehicles to the market, and the total sales volume has exceeded 7000 so far this year. As the main product of Nissan’s Alternative fuel vehicle, LEAF has formed a competitive relationship with Plug-in hybrid such as GM’s Wolandazeng program electric vehicles.
