Embraer and General Electric of the United States carried out a series of test flights this week using an EMBRAER 170 jet from the Garvio Peshawar factory. The purpose of the test flight is to determine the performance characteristics of aircraft powered by hydrogenated ester and fatty acid (HEFA) fuels and their GE CF34-8E engines under various unique flight conditions. One of the two General Electric engines participating in the test flight used a mixture of HEFA biofuel and Jet-A fuel allowed by the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) with a maximum ratio of 50% based on linseed oil.
Following the recent approval of bio based HEFA fuel by the American Society for Testing and Materials, Embraer and General Electric have increased their support for the development of sustainable bio aviation fuel in a wider range. Through these tests, both companies have confirmed that the technical plans and procedures for future fuel testing are robust, making it possible to conduct value-added and timely testing on additional fuels.
