Description
IS230SRTDH2A Safety Instrumented Systems
The IS230SRTDH2A demonstrates how a safety instrumented system differs from a Basic Process Control System (BPCS). In this example, pressure is a potential hazard. Pressure is normally controlled by a modulating control loop, as shown in the basic process control system, which regulates a pressure control valve.
An independent high pressure shutdown function is implemented in the IS230SRTDH2A. It is independent in the same way that the components used in the BPCS and SIS are physically and functionally independent. This includes the sensor assembly, the logic solver, and the final control element.
The IS230SRTDH2A is generally physically and functionally independent of the BPCS to ensure that any condition that could result in a loss of control of a process parameter in the BPCS is protected by the SIS, regardless of the function of the BPCS.
