Flexible Topology for I/O Expansion – The 350042M 176449-02 module is well configured as a local I/O or remote I/O module through its Ethernet bus backplane. 350042M 176449-02-5000 provides one and two slot backplanes, with one expansion port per 350042M 176449-02 backplane. Each 350042M 176449-02 backplane provides one expansion port. Connecting the expansion ports on both backplanes using standard Ethernet cables creates a remote expansion with local bus speeds of up to 100 metres. In addition, any standard Ethernet switch can be used between the two backplanes. The implementation of Ethernet switches not only increases the flexibility of I/O expansion, but also increases the expansion distance. For example, if there are three Ethernet switches between two I/O stations, the expansion distance can be at least 400 metres. (When fibre optic ports are available on the Ethernet switches, the distance can be much longer.)
