ABB 5SHY3545L0016 3BHB020720R0002 3BHE019719R0101 GVC736BE101 Mian Communication Module

ABB is a technology developer of electrification products, robotics and motion, industrial automation and power grids, serving customers in utilities, industry, transport and infrastructure worldwide. Continuing a history of innovation that spans more than 125 years, today abb is writing the future of industrial digitisation and driving energy and the fourth industrial revolution. The company operates in more than 100 countries and employs approximately 132,000 people.

ABB 5SHY3545L0016 3BHB020720R0002 3BHE019719R0101 The lithium batteries in the GVC736BE101 will be used in electric vehicles and energy storage systems, as well as in a variety of consumer electronics. The initial life of the lithium mine is expected to be 26 years. The mine is located in the James Bay region of Quebec, Canada, near the Nemaska Cree community. The mine will extract ore from one of the world’s richest (by volume and grade) lithium pyroxene diorite deposits. The hydroponics plant will be located in Shawinigan (Quebec), approximately 600 kilometres from the mine site, and will use Nimaska Lithium’s patented process to convert the ore into the highly valuable lithium hydroxide and lithium carbonate.

For the project, abb will design, procure and deliver systems and infrastructure to enable the mine, concentrator and hydroelectric plant to operate efficiently, safely and reliably. The company will provide integrated automation and electrification systems, including power infrastructure and equipment, control systems and other automation equipment and software, as well as ongoing field services. In addition, abb will interface with third-party vendors to ensure project execution and operational efficiency throughout the customer’s life cycle. “abb has been committed to this endeavour since the early days of this project and continues to be a partner and collaborative member of the project team,” said Brasas, President and CEO of Nemaska Lithium. Their local and global teams, mining industry expertise and skilled execution have helped us build a competitive project while utilising the latest digital automation and power technologies that will sustain our business long into the future.”

ABB Capability Solutions will provide the electrical and automation infrastructure required to run the process, integrating real-time monitoring and analysis applications of smart sensors with Nimaska’s core business and management processes. The integrated approach will enable Nemaska to utilise artificial intelligence and predictive analytics beyond the acceleration phase of the project. Once all deliveries are complete, ABB will continue to work with Nimaska Lithium to ensure that its business, productivity, energy efficiency and safety goals are met over the life of the mine.
