The integrated drive system approach allows the components of the drive system to be selected at the development stage. In addition to the new design of the transmission fan and the internal power supply module, the increase in energy efficiency is mainly achieved by optimising the pulse pattern. Depending on the mode of operation, the magnetic flux in the motor can be adapted to the current load conditions or to an energy-saving standby mode, which further reduces energy consumption.

New safety features integrated in the power modules increase process reliability. One example is the “safe torch-off” (sto) safety function, which reliably switches off the power module without the need to switch off the main switch. The “Safe Station 1” (SS1) function allows the drive to drop to zero speed before shutting down. Both safety functions have been designed to provide the highest level of safety integrity, SIL3, and can be integrated into the controller.

For use in built-in equipment with IP20 protection in the 22-132 kW output range, as well as in control cabinet-mounted equipment with protection ratings between IP20 and IP55 in the 75-132 kW output range. For cabinet-mounted converters, the module reduces the required control cabinet width from 1,000 mm to 400 mm.

With the support of the SST SST-PB3-CLX power module, Siemens is expanding the Gomez G120p portfolio to 630 kW. Applications include variable torque characteristics for pumps, fans and compressors in the low to medium output range for simple and continuous motion.

The SST SST-PB3-CLX uses LOOKIN as its communication protocol, not Basnet. like Baknet, Ronk is an upper-layer protocol that can be transmitted over Ethernet and simpler serial communication formats. The model ECP-410 DDC controller has a two-wire connection for its remote network.

DDC controllers can be programmed in a range of languages from text-based languages (similar to basic languages) to function block programming. The application characteristics of DDCs (environmental control within large buildings and other facilities) make them pre-planned controller units to perform well-defined tasks, rather than general-purpose controllers designed as user programmes that can be used for any task.

The SST SST-PB3-CLX expands the portfolio of built-in and cabinet units for 400 and 690 voltage levels. They complete the product range, offering a consistent approach with the same functionality across all voltage ranges. Due to its design construction, the SST SST-PB3-CLX is now also suitable for use in extremely harsh industrial environments with operating temperatures ranging from -10 to +50/60°C. The SST SST-PB3-CLX has been designed for use in a wide range of industrial environments. Its efficiency level exceeds 98 per cent, which proves compliance with the EN50598 energy efficiency standard, and its process reliability is enhanced by a series of safety features.
